Create Mosaics Full of Texture!

  • Do you want to add dimension to your mosaic art?

  • Do you want to use the materials you have more creatively?

  • Do you have a stash of materials waiting to be used?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then this course is for you.

In this course we will explore what your materials can do. You will discover new ways of using everyday mosaic materials, whether it is glass tiles, a broken plate, or some pebbles from the beach. Each material holds so much potential.

We’ll go through a series of exercises, looking at cutting techniques, examining surfaces, experimenting with ways to set pieces into a bed of adhesive, to create a whole range of interesting surfaces and textures. I’ll then show you how you can apply what you have learnt to start creating your own pieces of mosaic art.

The course will be taught via a series of live zoom sessions, which will be recorded and made available to all participants. There will be opportunities to ask questions at each session and there will be an exclusive online community group for all enrolled students.

Take a look at shape and surfaces

In this course you will be encouraged to experiment with cutting different shapes and to explore all the surfaces of your pieces that are created as a result.

This mosaic was made from a single mug, utilising the different surfaces and shapes produced from cutting, as well as creative placement of pieces.

FAQ

  • When is the course happening?

Live zoom classes will be held on Mondays, 7-9pm on the following dates: 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th November and 6th December 2021.

Please note that all times are in UK time zone (GMT). Please adjust accordingly if you are joining from a different country.

  • Do I need to provide my own materials?

Yes. The main things you will need alongside your mosaic materials (tesserae), are tile adhesive/thinset, some wheeled nippers and some boards to mosaic on. A materials list with recommended resources will be provided.

  • What if I can't make the live sessions?

All the live teaching sessions will be recorded. All enrolled students will be given access to the recordings within 24 hours of the live teaching. So whether you can't make the live or just want to watch again, you can catch up at a time that works for you. Access to the recordings will be available for 4 months after the course ends so you have plenty of time to catch up.

  • What exactly will I be making?

You will be encouraged to create a series of samplers as you experiment with your materials. We will then focus on bringing all the learning together and you will start to create a mosaic using the techniques taught in class.

  • Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes, we will be going over the basics in the first session and there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions. There will be live demonstrations of all the different techniques so you can see how to do things.

This class is also suitable for people who have some mosaic experience but want to explore techniques for using their materials more creatively.
