Do you want to create abstract mosaics?

In this course you will follow a step by step process to create an abstract mosaic.

You will take inspiration from photographs of nature, learning how to extract the key elements to create a successful composition. You'll be guided on material selection and techniques to help you create a final piece of abstract mosaic art that you can be proud of.

Sources of Inspiration

You'll take your inspiration from a library of nature photographs. From moss covered trees to lichen covered rocks, these images will feature different textures and colours to get your creative juices flowing.

Techniques for manipulating the images will be demonstrated. These, combined with guidance on composition, will help you define the key elements to use in your design.

Make the most of your materials

Mosaic materials will bring your design to life. You'll experiment with combinations of materials to develop a palette to use for your final mosaic.

Properties of your materials such as shape, surface and size will be considered as well as how to create contrast or harmony between elements.

Learn through doing

The best way to learn is through practice. So as well as watching presentations and demonstrations, you will be given practical exercises to enhance your learning.

To ensure you are comfortable with the techniques and understand the course content, there will also be two 'clinic' sessions. One held part way through the course and the other at the end. At these sessions you can put into practice what you have been learning, ask questions, get feedback on your work and see what others are making.
